What a field-level check covers
A Bill of Lading carries dozens of fields, and the expensive mistakes are rarely typos. They are contradictions: a weight that does not match the container lines, a package count that disagrees with itself, an on-board date that falls after the issue date.
- · Container numbers, against the ISO 6346 check digit
- · Gross and net weight, and whether the units agree
- · Package counts, the total against the container lines
- · Dates, in the order the shipment actually happened
- · Port codes and Incoterms, against the standard lists
- · Required fields, present rather than assumed
Why reading the document is not enough
Extraction tells you what a document says. It cannot tell you whether what it says is consistent. A shipper name misspelled is invisible to extraction and obvious to nobody until a bank or a customs broker refuses the set — which is the point at which fixing it costs money and days.
What this checker does not do
- · It does not replace the carrier's own confirmation of the booking.
- · It is not a customs declaration and not a legal opinion.
- · It checks the Bill of Lading. Matching it against an invoice or a packing list is a separate, fixed-price integration.
What gets checked
33 Bill of Lading fields are looked for, and 24 rules run over them. Every finding names the field it applies to, so it can be fixed in the source document.
